View from Restaurant at Abad Copper Castle, Munnar

Munnar

Soft hills rolling with tea leaf greens,
blanketed ever so lightly with cotton clouds,
Munnar is a sight to behold.

Cloud capped peaks, Munnar

Cloud capped Munnar peaks

I have been lucky to see many-a-hillstation in India and despite everything I have seen and experienced, Munnar is something else! It’s romantic for the couples, solace for the solo, flight to the dreamers and calm to the realists. What is surprising is that at just 5600 ft above sea level, you have clouds floating by silently touching your face. Imagine them gliding by amidst the hills covered with lush greens of the tea gardens, hear the sounds of the gushing stream that has carved its natural path down. It is an experience only lived, not read! You must go outside and to Munnar.

Reaching Munnar from Cochin
Take the AC Volvo Bus which leaves at 9 AM sharp (Fare – INR 220) from KSRTC Bus Stand. If you miss it, don’t panic, because there are buses every 30 mins or so. They are just non-AC. But with the amazing weather, you would hardly mind 🙂

Where to stay
Pick a resort on the Bisonvally road. This stretch has the most breathtaking views. Plus, it’s close to munnar main town. You might wanna stay close especially if you don’t have your own ride to travel around.
Bonus tip: Make sure you check the room views before booking (and maybe confirm on call with hotel reception). Because some of the hotels just face the road and not the hills.
We stayed at the hollyhock and we highly recommend it. Read the full review here.

Other great hotels on Bisonvally road – Abad Copper Castle, Oak Fields Resort and Olive Brooks

Going around
You can hire a local auto to take you around. You can ask your hotel to arrange one.

Things to do
Okay, so there are a plethora of things to do in Munnar but once we got there, all we wanted to do was relax, take a deep breath and take it all in.
But here are some great lists you can take advantage of (In case you can peel your eyes off the view for a while to see more!)

Leaving Munnar for Cochin
The AC Volvo Bus leaves at 3 PM from KSRTC (in front of sports council)
Otherwise, many non-AC buses are available at good frequency. (Fare – INR 90)
One can go trivandrum, allepely, cochin – all corners of kerala really.

Adios Munnar!
